Paul Ivens and Alexis Demetriades

About

Reputed Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) instructors, Paul Ivens, Marios and Alexis Demetriades marshaled their fight club, London Shootfighters, to its new home in London’s Ladbroke Grove in June 2005, starting up London’s first ever full-time cage-fighting gym.

London Shootfighters kicked-off as a training group for like-minded competitors and fighters. It swiftly evolved into regular classes and training sessions that have consistently produced some of the very best fighters in the UK. Alexis and Paul’s teaching style unites the ground-work of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Submission Wrestling with the takedowns of Freestyle and Greco Roman Wrestling and the striking of Muay Thai and Boxing, to produce world-class fighters. The mission is to create and teach sound technique in all aspects of fighting needed for the cage or the ring.

Paul, Marios and Alexis gained expertise during trips abroad to train with experts in the field, including the Gracie brothers, Frank Shamrock, Bas Rutten, Mark Kerr, and Shooto gyms in Japan. Since London Shootfighters was established in 1997, Paul and Alexis also joined the British Olympic Wrestling team.

Our aim is to be at the cutting edge of MMA and related sports. Members of the London Shootfighters team compete successfully in many arenas such as MMA/Cage fighting, Submission Wrestling, Kick Boxing and Olympic Wrestling. London Shootfighters will always remain committed to being accessible to all our members regardless of ability or age. Many members train for fun, fitness, or self-defence and we believe they achieve their own goals because of the professional training and attitude maintained by London Shootfighters.

Promotions & Management

As well as being a full time gym, London Shootfighters is involved in the managing of fighters and the promotion of fight shows.

Regarded as one of the top fighting camps in Europe, London Shootfighters is also involved in Mixed Martial Arts promotions and management. Managing a top stable of fighters and having run their own shows London Shootfighters possess outstanding relations and knowledge of fighters and the fight arena.

London Shootfighters has been a key presence in the European MMA scene since its inception, and has successfully worked alongside fight promoters throughout the world. London Shootfighters provided fighters to major organisations such as Pride in Japan, UFC in the US, Super Brawl in Hawaii, Too Hot To Handle in Holland, and Cage Rage in the UK. Their fighters competed in the very first shows in the UK.

In 2004, London Shootfighters put on Extreme Force at Wembley, which was the largest UK-produced fight promotion. It was the first UK based show to take the sport out of night clubs and into the bigger arena, a pioneering act that other shows followed.

Whilst most shows initially expect losses in their first few runs London Shootfighters’ Extreme Force managed to sell-out and turn over a profit in its first run. Primary reasons for the show's success were London Shootfighters’ close ties with and knowledge of fighters and other management organisations throughout the world. Paul and Alexis have a history of having personally trained and established good relations with the top MMA fighters worldwide and with fighting camps in the US, Brazil, Japan and Europe. London Shootfighters co-promotes Cage Rage shows, now regarded as the third biggest fight promotion in the world (after UFC and Pride).
